The Finger-Nalls (Your Vaulting Arches) puzzle is from Sarah Palmer’s Before the War series (2017-2018). These works bring together found imagery from sources such as home catalogs, magazines, newspapers, amateur erotica, self-defense/rape prevention manuals, and her own photography. Palmer incorporates digitally-created backgrounds to build these tactile, dimensional images through a process of printing, juxtaposing, photographing, re-printing, and layering. Finger-Nalls (Your Vaulting Arches) references poetry, specifically through its title, in this case, from Italian Futurist poet Paolo Buzzi’s poem, “Finger-Nails.” The complexity of Palmer’s work paired with the abstracting qualities of a puzzle come together to create a truly unique object perfect for photography collectors and puzzle enthusiasts alike.
