The Liquid Inside My Tank (2009) is a series of six 30x30" color photographs altered with chlorine bleach accompanied by a video of the process which alters them. The chemical breakdown causes yellow, magenta, and cyan dyes to release from the photographic paper and flow freely off the surface of the prints. With each succession, more of the black and white image washes away, eventually transforming into an abstract color image. The original photograph and the result of its destruction both reference their own creation. The chemical process used to create (and subsequently destroy) images in a darkroom works to inform us of the nature of metamorphosis. This serves as a reminder that the loss of one form gives birth to another, that growth requires change. [installation view]
